What is a small group? A group of 12 or less people who meet weekly in homes, at church or in the workplace to study, share and support one another in living a Christian life. Studies are biblically based. Each group is led by trained facilitators. A typical meeting lasts 1 ½--2 hours and will include dinner or light refreshments, discussion of study material and prayer.
When and where do the groups meet? The majority of Small Groups will meet in homes throughout the community. Additionally, some groups may meet at the church or in the workplace. Groups meet both in the daytime and evening on several different days during the week.
Is child care provided? Individual groups are responsible for coordinating child care. The church will pay a designated amount per hour for child care providers. Donations are appreciated.
Who can join? Any adult interested in learning more about God’s word and how it applies to daily life. Study material is relevant for both new and mature followers of Christ as well as those seeking an introduction to Christianity.
What is the length of commitment? The initial commitment is eight weeks. After eight weeks, participants may choose to stay in the small group, change to a different small group or take a break.
How is study material selected? All material will be biblically based. For new groups beginning, group facilitators will select study material. For ongoing groups, group members will provide input to group facilitators about topics of interest. Facilitators will consider input and select material.
How do I join? Registration will occur three times per year (fall, winter and spring). During each season, for two consecutive Sundays, registration tables will be set up in the Fellowship Hall with information about days, times, locations, study material and facilitators. For those who might miss these registration dates, a Small Groups Directory will be available for review and registration requests can be made via e-mail to rachel.portillo@paxpres.org.
Are there any fees involved? Most study material is purchased. There is no requirement to pay for material. A donation amount will be suggested at the beginning of each new study. Participants can choose to donate as they are able.
