Our PastorRev. Michael R. Jones was born, raised and educated in Virginia. He was awarded a BA in Business Administration and Sociology from Bridgewater College, Bridgewater, Virginia in 1981, after which he worked in the Virginia banking industry for five years. Mike then studied at Union Theological Seminary and was awarded a Master of Divinity degree in 1990. He was ordained as Minister of the Word and Sacrament, PC(USA) in 1990 and accepted a call to serve as Associate Pastor at Second Presbyterian Church in Oil City, Pennsylvania, where he later served as Interim Pastor and Head of Staff. In January 1997 Rev. Jones accepted a call to serve as Senior Pastor at Patuxent Presbyterian Church in California, Maryland. At Patuxent Presbyterian, Mike is responsible for all aspects of ministry, including preaching, administrative duties, and coordination of adult Bible study classes, a junior/senior high study group, the Presbyterian Women's Group and the Patuxent Men's Fellowship Group. In his ministry Mike "seeks the Lord's guidance in all things." Mike believes that the "focus of his ministry is spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ as the way and the truth. No one comes to God but by him. (John 14:6)" Mike finds preaching "enjoyable and invigorating" as well as "an honor and high responsibility." During his years as pastor, Mike has been involved in a variety of continuing education and professional development activities including training to teach the Bethel Bible Series and the Leadership Training for the Stephens Ministry. Mike has also been involved in work with Promise Keepers. Mike is married to the former Robyn Bunch. They have three children, Lauren, Katie, and Caleb. Robyn is active in Presbyterian Women. Mike enjoys outdoor activities and sports; especially basketball. Mike says "I like to laugh and see the light, positive side of things."
