Patuxent Presbyterian Church

Church Structure (How the Work Gets Done)

The Patuxent Presbyterian Church is tri-cameral and is comprised of the Session, Board of Deacons and Board of Trustees. The Board of Deacons and Board of Trustees are responsible to the Session and assist the Session in accomplishing the work of the church.

* The Session is responsible for the mission and the government of the church. The Session consists of the Pastor and twelve elders elected from the congregation. The elders lead the eight ministries of the Session: Worship, Christian Education, Evangelism/Church Growth, Mission, Administration, Stewardship, Pastoral Relations and Finance. A member of the Board of Deacons and the Board of Trustees attends each regularly scheduled Session meeting but is not entitled to vote.

* The Board of Deacons consists of nine deacons who are elected from the congregation. It is the duty of the deacons to minister to those who are in need. The Board of Deacons has one ministry, Care of Congregation, which is led by a member of the board. The deacons work very closely with the Mission ministry of the Session as they minister within the community as well as the congregation.

* The Board of Trustees consists of three elders elected from the congregation who are responsible for the management of all church property. These duties include such things as facility maintenance, furnishings and insurance.

We have revised our By-Laws and Standard Operating Procedures to help us as we grow in spirit and size. The guidelines, structure, and well-defined roles they provide will help us to realize our vision and accomplish our mission within our congregation and throughout our community. If you are interested in putting your talents and time to work through any of the ministries or groups listed in the above table, please contact the church office at (301) 863-2033 or via e-mail at ChurchOffice@paxpres.org.
