Care Network

  • Care Network Motto: The body of Christ doing the mission of Christ

  • Care Network Mission Statement: To minister with comfort and compassion to our family of faith in times of trial and joy through prayer, presence, support and education.

  • Care Network Programs: It is the purpose of the Care Network to see that no one in need in the PPC congregation will be neglected spiritually, physically or emotionally. We hope to provide the care and support Paul spoke of in 2Cor 1:3-4, when he said "Praise be to the God and Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts those in trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God".

  • Life's transitions, even positive ones, are often accompanied by associated stress, anxiety and pain, job loss, new employment, family moves, the beginning or end of an important relationship, birth, death, illness - these are just a few of the things that may affect our spirit and test our faith. At these times, having a sympathetic, prayerful friend and a system of support to fall back on can be a source of great comfort and healing.

  • Comfort and healing in community are part of the great tradition of Christian faith. The congregation of Patuxent Presbyterian Church is a community joined by faith and we express it with thoughtful attention to one another through prayer, presence and support of the human spirit. It is the mission of the PPC Care Network to see that this support is in place when it is needed, leaving no one in need to face trials alone.

  • The Care Network was established in the late 1990's. Each of our present active members has taken part in a 10 session, 24 hour training course titled "Developing the Caring Community, Pastoral Care Ministry for Laity" which includes instruction in the art of listening, dealing with stress and crisis, and visitation to the sick among other topics. The goal of each member is to provide:

    • A respectful, non judgmental and confidential ear
    • An open and caring heart
    • Time to be with you when you are in need

  • These goals are always approached with confidentiality as a primary consideration.

  • If the person requesting support chooses, their name can be added to the Prayer Chain.
